The 2008 Peoria Championship will be played Monday
nights at Lakeview Museum from 7 to 10 pm, beginning May 5th. In addition to the
defending champion, Peter McConaghie, 8 players were qualified by finishing in
the top 2 in specified Peoria chess tournaments over the past year. The
remaining 3 players were selected by committee as at-Large players based on
their USCF ratings, their participation in GPCF events and their participation
in the Lakeview Monday night club.

== The Rules
==
Qualified players will compete in two
6-man round robin sections, the winner of each section then meeting in a final
match of 2 games. If no winner is determined between the finalists after 2 games
a 3rd game will be played with colors determined by chance. If a section
produces a tie for the section, the players will replay their previous match
with reversed colors. If the final game is drawn in a section, a 10-minute match
will be played immediately after the drawn game, using the same rules as the
final slower match. Time control for all 2008 Peoria championship games will be
Game/75 with a 5 second delay.
== Assigning Sections ==
The sections will be split into Group A and Group B. To
assign players, they will be listed by USCF rating, using the March list. The
highest ranking player will be placed in Group A. The next 2 players will be
placed in Group B. The next 2 will be placed in Group A,
etc.

putting all evens in one Group and all the odds in another Group.
== The Pairings ==
The 6 Round, Round Robin Chart (Table B) in the USCF Official
Rules of Chess will be used to determine the round
pairings.
We went to http://www.random.org/sequences/ to assign
random numbers to the players to determine their places in the pairing chart.
The same sequence was used for both groups. And the sequence produced was
1,4,5,3,2,6. Since the sequence is random, I don't know if this can be
reproduced (I have a printed copy for interested parties). Applying this
sequence to our players, we have:
Group
A
1 Bill
Naff
2 Brian
Villareal
3 Ron
Suarez
4 Andy

McConaghie
6 Laszlo

Group
